Checklist for ChatGPT

01
Before you order
OpenAI only works in supported countries and caps how many accounts one number can verify. Pick a supported country with a recent success record.
02
While the code is on its way
Enter the number in the OpenAI prompt with its country code. The code appears on your screen here; if it never comes, you are refunded.
03
Once you are in
Turn on multi-factor authentication with an authenticator app, so the next login on a new device does not need this number.

Why ChatGPT asks for a phone number

A ChatGPT account is often the key to other services too: email, cloud storage, payments. Verifying with a separate number keeps those accounts apart from your personal number.

Good to know

A number is for one verification. If ChatGPT sends a new code to it later, you will not see it.
If you will use the account for a long time, add your own contact details in the ChatGPT settings after setup.
Following the ChatGPT rules is up to you; the number only keeps your own number private.
