Why OfferUp asks for a phone number

Classifieds and shopping sites verify numbers to show that buyers and sellers are real. Keeping your own number out of listing traffic means fewer unwanted calls.

Good to know

A number is for one verification. If OfferUp sends a new code to it later, you will not see it.
If you will use the account for a long time, add your own contact details in the OfferUp settings after setup.
Following the OfferUp rules is up to you; the number only keeps your own number private.
